Zonal started as an official side-project of Techno Animal in 2000. As yet another collaboration between Justin and Kevin Martin, the band's debut was one of two releases on AvalancheInc. before both the company and the band went MIA for well over a decade. The Zonal record was the first of a scheduled multi-part set of releases, none of which ever saw the light of day.
Fast forwarding to 2017, the duo reconnected. Instead of resurrecting Techno Animal, the pair opted to start anew as Zonal, playing their first live show ever at the Supersonic Festival. Several later performances included Moor Mother, an artist with whom they'd continue to collaborate. In the summer of 2019, the band signed to Relapse Records and began to issue material: some alongside Moor Mother and some without. The project is now active and ongoing. |
